FAQs
I know you probably have a lot of questions before booking your session or wedding day coverage. I’ve answered the most common questions I hear from clients so you can feel confident and excited about your photography experience.
What does “documentary-style photography” mean?
Documentary-style photography is about capturing authentic, candid moments as they unfold. Instead of interrupting you to ask for a smile, I focus on the real emotions, subtle interactions, and natural beauty of your story. Whether it’s a wedding day, family session, or engagement shoot, this approach ensures your photos feel genuine, timeless, and true to who you are.
How do I know if your style is right for me?
If you value emotion, connection, and genuine storytelling, my photography style is right for you. My clients usually say they want images that feel real—photographs that bring back memories, not just show how the day looked. If you’re drawn to natural, honest emotions, and an artistic documentary approach, you’re in the right place.
What should we wear for a family, couple, or engagement session?
Wardrobe plays a big role in how your photos feel. I recommend neutral or earthy tones that complement the environment and keep the focus on you. Avoid loud logos, neon colors, or overly busy patterns that can distract from the emotions in the images. Think comfortable, timeless, and true to your personality. If you’re unsure, I’ll send you a detailed style guide and help you plan outfits that look amazing on camera.
What if we feel awkward in front of the camera?
This is one of the biggest concerns clients share with me, and it’s completely normal. My job is to create a relaxed, comfortable environment where you can just be yourself. I’ll give gentle direction when needed, but most of the time I’ll simply encourage you to interact naturally with your partner, kids, or family. The result? Photographs that look effortless, natural, and true to your relationships.
What happens if the weather doesn’t cooperate for our outdoor session?
Weather can be unpredictable. If it rains or conditions aren’t ideal, we’ll either embrace the moody atmosphere (which often makes for beautifully emotive images) or reschedule for a better day. For weddings, I always come prepared with backup gear, creative lighting solutions, and a positive attitude—so no matter the weather, your story will be beautifully captured.
Do you travel for sessions and weddings?
Absolutely! Whether it’s a mountaintop engagement session, a destination wedding, or a cozy in-home family session, I love photographing love stories in meaningful locations. Travel fees may apply depending on distance, but I’ll always work with you to make the process as easy and transparent as possible.
How do we book you and how far in advance?
Booking is simple. Either submit a contact form or visit the Investment page to book your session. To reserve your date, I require a signed contract and a non-refundable retainer. After that, your date is officially secured, and we can start planning your session or wedding photography experience together.
Weddings often book 9–18 months in advance, especially during peak season. For family, couple, or engagement sessions, I recommend booking at least 2–3 months ahead to secure your preferred date. My calendar fills quickly, so reaching out early is the best way to make sure I can be there to document your story.
Do you offer albums or prints?
Yes! While your digital gallery is perfect for sharing online, there’s nothing like holding your memories in your hands. I offer a range of heirloom-quality albums, wall art, and fine art prints that will last for generations. These pieces turn your images into tangible works of art that can be cherished and passed down.
Do you photograph weddings in Erie, PA and surrounding areas?
Yes. I photograph weddings throughout Erie, Northwest Pennsylvania, and surrounding regions including destinations along Lake Erie. Whether you’re planning a waterfront celebration, a backyard wedding, or a full wedding weekend, I approach every wedding with a documentary mindset focused on honest storytelling and natural moments.
What is your approach to wedding photography?
My approach is documentary-driven and people-focused. I’m not interested in turning your wedding day into a long photoshoot. Instead, I focus on capturing the day as it naturally unfolds while offering gentle guidance when needed. The goal is to create wedding photographs that feel authentic, emotional, and true to your experience. Planning a wedding in Erie and would like to connect? Let’s connect.
Do you help with wedding timelines?
Absolutely. A well-planned timeline creates space for you to actually enjoy your wedding day while still leaving room for meaningful photographs. I help couples build photography timelines that feel relaxed, intentional, and realistic - especially during moments like getting ready, portraits, sunset photos, and the reception.
How far in advance should we book our wedding photographer?
Most couples book their wedding photographer anywhere from 8 to 18 months in advance, especially for popular wedding dates in Erie and throughout Northwest Pennsylvania. If you already have your venue and date secured, it’s a good idea to begin reaching out to photographers sooner rather than later.
Do you photograph intimate weddings and elopements?
Yes. Some of my favorite wedding days are the smaller, quieter celebrations that allow couples to stay fully present with the people closest to them. I photograph intimate weddings, elopements, courthouse ceremonies, and small destination celebrations throughout the Erie area and beyond. Planning an elopement? Send me an email and let’s chat about creating something intentional, intimate, and true to who you are.
Can you recommend wedding venues in Erie, PA?
Erie has so many beautiful options for weddings, whether you’re looking for lakefront views, elegant indoor spaces, or something more laid back and personal. Over the years, I’ve photographed weddings at venues throughout Erie and Northwest Pennsylvania and I’m always happy to offer recommendations based on the atmosphere and experience you’re hoping to create.
Will you help us feel comfortable in photos on our wedding day?
Definitely. Most couples tell me they feel awkward in front of the camera at first, and honestly, that’s completely normal. My approach is relaxed and unobtrusive, which allows people to settle into the moment naturally. I’ll guide you when needed, but I never want your wedding day to feel overly staged or performative.
How many wedding photos will we receive?
Every wedding is different, but most couples receive a carefully curated gallery that fully tells the story of the day from beginning to end. Rather than focusing on delivering the highest possible number of images, I focus on delivering wedding photographs that are meaningful, emotional, and intentional.
